High modality demands or insists; low modality suggests or hints

Modal verbs: can, could, may, might, must, shall, should, will, would.

  • Write a letter explaining why you shouldn’t be given homework. The letter must include all nine nodal verbs.
  • In groups of four, decided which four modal verbs that you would remove from the English language.

  • each new speaker requires a new line of dialogue
  • describe setting at least once in each paragraph
  • break up description of action with description of setting
  • start a new paragraph each time you change location or topic

005 – Prepositional Phrases, Hmk Chk and Oral Presentation

Warm Up

A prepositional phrase is phrase that starts with a preposition and ends with noun. Prepositional phrases can act as adjectives or adverbs. When they act as adverbs, they modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. In this exercise, we’ll only diagram prepositional phrases that modify verbs.

Example: The rabbit hopped through the pretty garden.
