026 – Act One is Done

Do Now

Do you think that Shakespeare’s work should be updated to modern English? Or do you think it should be left the way it is? Write a paragraph to explain.

To complete the reading and review of Act I.

Success Criteria

  • I have read Act I
  • I have access to a photo of the important quotes from Act I.

What’s the difference between a Monologue and a Soliloquy?

A monologue might be delivered to an audience within a play, or it might be delivered directly to the audience sitting in the theatre and watching the play.

A soliloquy is a speech that one gives to oneself, like the character is thinking out loud. It gives the audience an insight into the character’s internal thoughts.

Task: Quote Race

You will be split into five teams and each allocated a scene (or two, for shorter scenes) from Act I. As a team, you will find two important quotes from your scene(s) and write them on the board. You will be required to explain their significance in the context of the play.

Take a photo of the board. Your homework will be to copy these notes into a Word document. This will be helpful when it comes time to write your essays.
